Vocal Shankha with image of Lord Hanumana carved on it ;void(0)) On this Shankha Hanuman is portrayed in the posture known as "Sanjeevani Hanuman", which grows out of an episode from the Indian epic Ramayana. Hanuman is the faithful servant and devotee of Lord Rama, a divine warrior king from the North Indian city of Ayodhya. When Rama’s beautiful wife Sita is kidnapped to Lanka by the demon king Ravana, Rama and an army of monkeys and other mythical animals fight Ravana’s forces in a bid to recover Sita. During the battle Rama’s brother Lakshmana is wounded, and Hanuman is dispatched to the Himalayan Mountains to retrieve a healing herb to revive Lakshmana. In his haste Hanuman forgets which herb is required and so he uproots the entire mountain and flies back to the battlefield holding it aloft. The herb he returns with, the Sanjeevani herb, restores the fallen soldier, and this journey earns this particular image of Hanuman – in flight with the Himalayan Mountain held in his outstretched hand – the name Sanjeevani Hanuman.
