It is also called Agneya-Purana and is narrated by Suta (Lomaharsana), a disciple of Vyasa, who received it from Vasistha to whom it was communicated by Agni. It consists of Sixteen thousand stanzas distributed in three hundred and eighty-three chapters. The contents of this Purana clearly show that it has no sectarial leaning. It impartially treats of Vaisnava, Saiva and Sakta forms of worship. It is more a compendium of Sanskrit learning than the advocacy of any particular form of religion. The early chapters of this Purana describe the Avataras and in those of Rama and Krsna, avowedly follow the Ramayana and Mahabharata. The numberless obsolete rites, ceremonials and mantras described in this Purana, are of no interest to a general reader. But the chapters on medicine, materia medica and pharmacy as well as those on the treatment of elephants and horse diseases are highly interesting. Besides an exhaustive account of paravidya and the science of Brahman occurs in this Purana. It is a very interesting account and will prove highly useful to the readers. It can virtually be regarded as an Encyclopaedia of Hinduism, teaching as it does among others many subjects such as cosmogony, religion, law and much legendary matter etc. which, to a Hindu, assumes the value of history and geographical matter such as description of various places of pilgrimage. This Purana also teaches, archery, medicine, rhetoric, prosody and grammar. It is first time that this revised English translation of M.N. Dutt includes the Sanskrit text. Dear to devotees of Lord Vishnu, Bhagavat Purana consists of eighteen thousand slokas, distributed amongst 332 chapters and divided into twelve cantos (skandhas). It is named Bhagavata from its being dedicated to the glorification of Lord Vishnu, a premier Hindu deity. Though originally written in Sanskrit, Bhagavat has been explored and translated in major vernacular languages of India. Bhagavat, an epic philosophical and literary classic, holds a prominent position in India’s voluminous written wisdom. Bhagavat exercises a more direct and powerful influence upon the opinions and feelings of the people than perhaps any other of the Puranas. Bhagavat is considered essence of Hindu mythology like Geeta being considered as essence of upanishads. Bhagavat deals mainly with innumerable exploits of Krishna, an avatar or incarnation of Vishnu and stresses on devotion, as way to salvation (mukti). Sage Vyas, author of many great scriptures like Mahabharat and Vedas, compiled it . The 18,000-verse treatise centers on the science of God and devotion to Him, and includes biographies of great devotees who followed the path of Bhakti and attained moksha. From academic point of view, Bhagavata Purana is a narration of a conversation between King Parikshit and Sage Sukdev (Shukadeva). King ParÄ«kshit was cursed to die in seven days by a Brahmin, so he decided to spent final days of his life in gaining knowledge about the goal of life relegating his stately duties. As he prepares for his impending death, Shukadeva, who has been searching for a suitable disciple to whom he might impart his great knowledge, approaches the king and agrees to teach him. It raises and answers fundamental questions like what is life, what is a human being's role in life, what is meant by cycle of birth and death, what is the relation between God and man, what are ways of propitiating God etc. Bhagavata also adds fifth element of devotion (or divine service) besides well-known four aspects of life i.e. dharma (morality), artha (acquiring wealth), kama (pleasure) and moksha (liberation or salvation). It tells about the Lakshmi Kalpa, and treats of the objects of life - duty, wealth, pleasure, and liberation. Abour Kurma avatar In the Puranas, a portion of cosmic Vishnu descended as the kurma to restore to mankind the mystic nectar (amrita), the essence of life and truth, as well as other holy and precious things needful to humanity, which had been lost. Vishnu ordered the gods to churn the sea of milk that they might procure once more these precious things, and he promised to become the tortoise on which the mountain Mandara as a churning stick should rest. Out of the sea of churned milk arose the 14 precious things, and with these the gods won their authority over the demons once more. Cosmically this churning of the sea of milk relates to a period before the earth's formation, the sea of milk being the expanse of space populated by the nebulae and diffuse star-stuff, the seeds and substance of future worlds and their hierarchies.

Details of book :-

Language: English Kurma Purana/translated into English by G.V. The void thus created in the Indian religious thought was filled by the epics of the Ramayana of Valmiki as well as the Mahabharata. But besides these, the Puranas which were composed by the sage Vyasa and other sages gained the importance of their own. Some of them were devoted to Vishnu, while others were devoted to Shiva, Shakti as well as other deities. Of these, Shiva Purana and Linga Purana are mainly the Shaiva Puranas. In these Puranas, Lord Shiva is eulogised in different ways and both of them have their own importance.

The distinctive aspect of the Linga Purana is that thousand and eight names of Shiva have been repeated twice in this Purana. In Chapter-65, the thousand and eight names have been spoken out by sage Tandin, while in Chapter-98 of the same Purana, the thousand and eight names of Shiva were recited by lord Vishnu himself in order to get discus from lord Shiva, at the behest of the gods. Besides these, there are many other topics in this Purana, which will be of great interest to the readers. This Purana is divided into two parts. The first part has a hundred and eight chapters, while the second part has fifty five chapters. This is for the first time that an English translation of Linga Purana is being published along with complete Sanskrit text. The importance of the book is further enhances with an exhaustive introduction on the subject and an index of verses is also provided at the end of the second volume for the benefit of the readers.

Details of Book :-

Author - Translated by Shanti Lal Nagar

Publisher - Parimal Publications

Language - English

ISBN - 978-81-7110-391-1

Binding - Hardbound

Size - 9.7 inches x 7.8 inches

Pages - 898

Weight of book - 1 kgs 970 grams

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1328/9161/files/book-and-cd-linga-mahapurana-2-vols-an-exhaustive-introduction-sanskrit-text-english-translation-index-of-verses-1.jpg?v=1776070067
srimad-devi-bhagavatam-devibhagavatam-set-of-2-books
Srimad Devi Bhagavatam (Devibhagavatam) - Set of 2 books

Among the eighteen Puranas, Devi Bhagavata is the most supreme.
