Light is considered as a symbol of auspiciousness, prosperity and abundance in the Hindu religion. Light brings brightness with it and removes the darkness. Light makes it possible to see things clearly. Lamp (Deep) is a part of various traditions and cultures around the world in general and India in particular. In almost every Indian home across the rural-urban divide, a lamp is lit daily in relation to sacred or secular domains of culture. Following Sloka / Shloka can be recited while lighting the lamp. This prayer is also known "Deepa shlokam" , "Deep Vandana" or "Deepa Jyoti Mantra". The light emanating from the ghee lamp removes darkness, ignorance and evil. The light or knowledge shows us the way out of our problems, fears, tensions, and unhappiness. The light of a ghee lamp is believed to bring in prosperity, as knowledge or wisdom is the greatest form of wealth. The wick is a symbol of energy and light where a light emits brightness. Deepas are also used to invite mother Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth into the home. We lit a lamp to bow down to knowledge as greatest forms of wealth. Light is hence, worshiped as God himself. Children should be taught to light the lamps at home and feel the positive vibration and energy.
