Lord Ayyappan, or  Ayyappa, is a popular Hindu deity worshiped mainly in South India. Shri Ayyappa is believed to have been born out of the union between Lord Shiva and Vishnu (in female form, as the mythical enchantress Mohini), who is regarded as avatar of Lord Vishnu. Hence he is also known as ‘Hariharaputhra’ which literally means the son of both Hari (Lord Vishnu) and Haran (Lord Shiva).
