Sri Hanuman Chalisa is a devotional hymn dedicated to Sri Hanuman. Sri Hanuman Chalisa is remarkable creation of Goswami Tulsidas. Sri Hanuman Chalisa has 40 poetic verses.The language that was used to write the Hanuman Chalisa was Awadhi. It has been written by 16th century. Reciting Hanuman Chalisa will ward off negative energies and spirits. बरनउँ रघुबर बिमल जसु जो दायकु फल चारि ॥

With the dust of Guru's Lotus feet, I clean the mirror of my mind and then narrate the sacred glory of Sri Ram Chandra, The Supereme among the Raghu dynasty. The giver of the four attainments of life. Knowing myself to be ignorent, I urge you, O Hanumana, The son of Pavan ! O Lord ! kindly Bestow on me strength, wisdom and knowledge, removing all my miseries and blemishes

जय हनुमान ज्ञान गुन सागर ।
जय कपीस तिहुँ लोक उजागर ॥१॥

Jai Hanuman gyan gun sagar
Jai Kapis tihun lok ujagar ॥1॥

Victory of Thee, O Hanuman, Ocean of wisdom and virtue, victory to the Lord of monkeys who is well known in all the three worlds

राम दूत अतुलित बल धामा ।
अञ्जनि-पुत्र पवनसुत नामा ॥२॥

Ram doot atulit bal dhama
Anjaani-putra Pavan sut nama ॥2॥

You, the Divine messager of Ram and repository of immeasurable strength, are also
known as Anjani putra and known as the son of the wind - Pavanputra.

महाबीर बिक्रम बजरङ्गी ।
कुमति निवार सुमति के सङ्गी ॥३॥

Mahabir Bikram Bajrangi
Kumati nivar sumati Ke sangi ॥3॥

Oh Hanuman ji! You are valiant and brave, with a body like lightening. You are the
dispeller of darkness of evil thoughts and companion of good sense and wisdom.

कञ्चन बरन बिराज सुबेसा ।
कानन कुण्डल कुञ्चित केसा ॥४॥

Kanchan varan viraj subesa
Kanan Kundal Kunchit Kesha ॥4॥

Shri Hanumanji's physique is golden coloured. His dress is pretty, wearing 'Kundals' ear-rings and his hairs are long and curly.

हाथ बज्र औ ध्वजा बिराजै ।
काँधे मूँज जनेउ साजै ॥५॥

Hath Vajra Aur Dhuvaje Viraje
Kaandhe moonj janehu saje ॥5॥

Vajra (mace) and flag are shining in your hand. Sacred thread made of Munja grass adorns your shoulder

शंकर सुवन केसरीनन्दन ।
तेज प्रताप महा जग बन्दन ॥६॥

Shankar suvan kesri Nandan
Tej prataap maha jag vandan ॥6॥

O partial incarnation of Lord shiva, giver of joy to King Kesari. Your great majesty is revered by the whole world

बिद्यावान गुनी अति चातुर ।
राम काज करिबे को आतुर ॥७॥

Vidyavaan guni ati chatur
Ram kaj karibe ko aatur ॥7॥

Oh one learned in all Vidyas, one full of virtues, Very clever. You are always eager to do Rama's tasks

प्रभु चरित्र सुनिबे को रसिया ।
राम लखन सीता मन बसिया ॥८॥

Prabu charitra sunibe-ko rasiya
Ram Lakhan Sita man Basiya ॥8॥

You are intensely greedy for listening to the naration of Lord Ram's lifestory and revel on its enjoyment. You ever dwell in the hearts of Shri Ram-Sita and Shri Lakshman.

सूक्ष्म रूप धरि सियहिं दिखावा ।
बिकट रूप धरि लङ्क जरावा ॥९॥

Sukshma roop dhari Siyahi dikhava
Vikat roop dhari lank jarava ॥9॥

You appeared before Sita in a diminutive form and spoke to her, while you assumed an awesome form and struck terror by setting Lanka on fire.

भीम रूप धरि असुर सँहारे ।
रामचन्द्र के काज सँवारे ॥१०॥

Bhima roop dhari asur sanghare
Ramachandra ke kaj sanvare ॥10॥

Assuming a terrible form you slayed demons. You made Lord Rama's works easier

लाय सञ्जीवन लखन जियाये ।
श्रीरघुबीर हरषि उर लाये ॥११॥

Laye Sanjivan Lakhan Jiyaye
Shri Raghuvir Harashi ur laye ॥11॥

You brought Sanjeevini herb to save Lakshmana's Life. Lord Rama embraced you in joy

रघुपति कीह्नी बहुत बड़ाई ।
तुम मम प्रिय भरतहि सम भाई ॥१२॥

Raghupati Kinhi bahut badai
Tum mam priye Bharat-hi-sam bhai ॥12॥

Shri Rama praised Hanumanji's excellence and remarked, "you are as dear to me as my own brother Bharat

सहस बदन तुह्मारो जस गावैं ।
अस कहि श्रीपति कण्ठ लगावैं ॥१३॥

Sahas badan tumharo yash gaave
Asa-kahi Shripati kanth lagaave ॥13॥

May the thousand headed serpent Shesnaag sing of your glory' saying this Lord Rama embraced you

सनकादिक ब्रह्मादि मुनीसा ।
नारद सारद सहित अहीसा ॥१४॥

Sankadhik Brahmaadi Muneesa
Narad-Sarad sahit Aheesa ॥14॥

Sanak and the sages, saints. Lord Brahma, the great hermits Narad and Goddess Saraswati along with Sheshnag the cosmic serpent, fail to sing the glories of Hanumanji exactly

जम कुबेर दिगपाल जहाँ ते ।
कबि कोबिद कहि सके कहाँ ते ॥१५॥

Yam Kuber Digpaal Jahan te
Kavi kovid kahi sake kahan te ॥15॥

Yama, Kubera, Dikpaalakas, poets and singers; they can not describe your greatness properly

तुम उपकार सुग्रीवहिं कीह्ना ।
राम मिलाय राज पद दीह्ना ॥१६॥

Tum upkar Sugreevahin keenha
Ram milaye rajpad deenha ॥16॥

You helped Sugreeva. You made him friends with Rama which gave him his Kingship back

तुह्मरो मन्त्र बिभीषन माना ।
लङ्केस्वर भए सब जग जाना ॥१७॥

Tumharo mantra Vibheeshan maana
Lankeshwar Bhaye Sub jag jana ॥17॥

By heeding your advice. Vibhushan became Lord of Lanka, which is known all over the universe

जुग सहस्र जोजन पर भानु ।
लील्यो ताहि मधुर फल जानू ॥१८॥

Yug sahastra jojan par Bhanu
Leelyo tahi madhur phal janu ॥18॥

You flew towards the sun who is thousands of years of Yojanas away, thinking of him as a sweet fruit

प्रभु मुद्रिका मेलि मुख माहीं ।
जलधि लाँघि गये अचरज नाहीं ॥१९॥

Prabhu mudrika meli mukh mahee
Jaladhi langhi gaye achraj nahee ॥19॥

Carrying the Lord's ring in his mouth, you went across the ocean. There is no wonder in that.

दुर्गम काज जगत के जेते ।
सुगम अनुग्रह तुह्मरे तेते ॥२०॥

Durgaam kaj jagath ke jete
Sugam anugraha tumhre tete ॥20॥

Oh Hanuman ji...all the difficult tasks in the world are rendered easiest by your grace.

राम दुआरे तुम रखवारे ।
होत न आज्ञा बिनु पैसारे ॥२१॥

Ram dwaare tum rakhvare
Hoat na agya binu paisare ॥21॥

You are the doorkeeper of Rama's court. Without your permission nobody can enter Rama's abode

सब सुख लहै तुह्मारी सरना ।
तुम रच्छक काहू को डर ना ॥२२॥

Sub sukh lahae tumhari sar na
Tum rakshak kahu ko dar naa ॥22॥

All happiness stay with those who take refuge in you.When you are the protector, why be afraid?

आपन तेज सह्मारो आपै ।
तीनों लोक हाँक तें काँपै ॥२३॥

Aapan tej samharo aapai
Teenhon lok hank te kanpai ॥23॥

When you roar all the three worlds tremble and only you can control your might.

भूत पिसाच निकट नहिं आवै ।
महाबीर जब नाम सुनावै ॥२४॥

Bhoot pisaach Nikat nahin aavai
Mahavir jab naam sunavae ॥24॥

Evil Spirits and Ghosts don't come near when your name is heard O great Courageous one

नासै रोग हरै सब पीरा ।
जपत निरन्तर हनुमत बीरा ॥२५॥

Nase rog hare sab peera
Japat nirantar Hanumant beera ॥25॥

Diseases will run away, all pains will be gone, when a devotee continuously repeats Hanuman the brave's name

संकट तें हनुमान छुड़ावै ।
मन क्रम बचन ध्यान जो लावै ॥२६॥

Sankat te Hanuman chudavae
Man Karam Vachan dyan jo lavai ॥26॥

Those who rembember Hanumanji in thought, word and deed are well guarded against their odds in life.

सब पर राम तपस्वी राजा ।
तिन के काज सकल तुम साजा ॥२७॥

Sab par Ram tapasvee raja
Tin ke kaj sakal Tum saja ॥27॥

Rama is the king of all, he is the king of yogis. You managed all his tasks" or in other translation "He whoever takes refuge in Rama you will manage all their tasks

और मनोरथ जो कोई लावै ।
सोई अमित जीवन फल पावै ॥२८॥

Aur manorath jo koi lavai
Sohi amit jeevan phal pavai ॥28॥

Whoever brings many of their wishes to you, they will get unlimited fruits

चारों जुग परताप तुह्मारा ।
है परसिद्ध जगत उजियारा ॥२९॥

Charon Yug partap tumhara
Hai persidh jagat ujiyara ॥29॥

Your glory is for all the four yugas, Your greatness is very famous throughout the world, and illumines the world

साधु सन्त के तुम रखवारे ।
असुर निकन्दन राम दुलारे ॥३०॥

Sadhu Sant ke tum Rakhware
Asur nikandan Ram dulhare ॥30॥

Oh Hanumanji! You are the saviour and the guardian angel of saints and sages and destroy all the Demons, you are the seraphic darling of Shri Ram

अष्टसिद्धि नौ निधि के दाता ।
अस बर दीन जानकी माता ॥३१॥

Ashta-sidhi nav nidhi ke dhata
As-var deen Janki mata ॥31॥

Mother Sita granted you a boon to become the bestower of 8 Siddhis (supernatural powers) and 9 Nidhis (divine treasures)

राम रसायन तुह्मरे पासा ।
सदा रहो रघुपति के दासा ॥३२॥

Ram rasayan tumhare pasa
Sada raho Raghupati ke dasa ॥32॥

Oh Hanuman ji! You hold the essence of devotion to Rama, always remaining His Servant.

तुह्मरे भजन राम को पावै ।
जनम जनम के दुख बिसरावै ॥३३॥

Tumhare bhajan Ram ko pavai
Janam-janam ke dukh bisraavai ॥33॥

Singing your name gets us Rama himself and Removes the sufferings of many lives

अन्त काल रघुबर पुर जाई ।
जहाँ जन्म हरिभक्त कहाई ॥३४॥

Anth-kaal Raghuvir pur jayee
Jahan janam Hari-Bakht Kahayee ॥34॥

He who worships you with devotion, at the end of the life he attains to Lord Rama's abode. Where he will be born as a Devotee of Lord Rama

और देवता चित्त न धरई ।
हनुमत सेइ सर्ब सुख करई ॥३५॥

Aur Devta Chit na dharehi
Hanumanth se hi sarv sukh karehi ॥35॥

One need not hold any other demigod in mind. Hanumanji alone will give all happiness.

संकट कटै मिटै सब पीरा ।
जो सुमिरै हनुमत बलबीरा ॥३६॥

Sankat kate-mite sab peera
Jo sumirai Hanumat Balbeera ॥36॥

Problems and Pains will be removed from one's life who remembers Hanuman the mighty brave one

जय जय जय हनुमान गोसाईं ।
कृपा करहु गुरुदेव की नाईं ॥३७॥

Jai Jai Jai Hanuman Gosahin
Kripa Karahu Gurudev ki nyahin ॥37॥

Victory to you O master of the senses. Show mercy on us like a Guru does

जो सत बार पाठ कर कोई ।
छूटहि बन्दि महा सुख होई ॥३८॥

Jo sat bar path kare kohi
Chutehi bandhi maha sukh hohi ॥38॥

One who recites this Hanuman Chalisa one hundred times daily for one hundred days becames free from the bondage of life and death and ejoys the highest bliss at last.

जो यह पढ़ै हनुमान चालीसा ।
होय सिद्धि साखी गौरीसा ॥३९॥

Jo yah padhe Hanuman Chalisa
Hoye siddhi sakhi Gaureesa ॥39॥

He whoever reads these verses on Hanuman ji , he will get spiritual attainments, Lord Shiva is the witness to this statement

तुलसीदास सदा हरि चेरा ।
कीजै नाथ हृदय महँ डेरा ॥४०॥

Tulsidas sada hari chera
Keejai Nath Hridaye mein dera ॥40॥

Tulasidas is always a disciple of Lord Rama. O lord make my heart your abode
