The Ashtakshra (ashtakshri) Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is a simple, yet effect Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra; especially for those who find it difficult to chant and pronounce Sanskrit Mantras. More so because it is normally prescribed for the very sick and ailing persons or those on death bed. And to expect such persons to chant difficult Mantras flawlessly is most unwise.

This Japa Mantra of Shiva has Hreem Beej at the start of mantra. The meaning is simple”Namaskar to Shiva”. It can be meditated in the mind and will take full effect as a long term meditation, after the number of chants crosses the 800,000 mark. The mediator is not advised to count the number of chants with any Japa Mala; but only concentrate upon Shiva.

Sri Ashtakshri yantra can be kept on pooja place during this sadhana . Sri Ashtakshri Shiva yantra is said to grant good health, meet the material wants, progress in spiritualism and lead to ultimate liberation.
