Shri Shaligram Stotra has been mentioned in Shri Bhavishyottara Purana. Shri Shaligrama Stotra  was given to King Yudhisthira by Lord Krishna. King Yudhisthira asks Lord Krishna about the significance of the saligram sila. Lord Krishna Replies that Saligram Silas found on the bank of river Gandaki are very precious and significant.
